Welcome to JAXN Insights

Why we're publishing

For most of JAXN's development, our research has lived in internal notebooks, trade logs, and a handful of private Slack threads. That served the fund well — but it's the wrong shape for what we want to become.

JAXN Intelligence is built on the premise that the gap between the institutional trader and the everyday commodity participant is mostly an information asymmetry, not an ability asymmetry. The tools are cheaper than they've ever been. The data is more accessible than it's ever been. What's missing, in South Africa especially, is a steady drumbeat of public thinking from practitioners who are actually in the market.

So here we are.

What you can expect

A few categories of posts will rotate through this feed:

  • Market commentary — monthly or event-driven pieces on SA grain and oilseed markets, with reference to parity, deliveries, SAFEX positioning, and global flow context.
  • Model diaries — what we built, why we built it, and what it's teaching us. Expect honesty about what didn't work.
  • Opinion — occasional pieces on where SA commodity markets are heading, what we're watching, and what we think consensus is getting wrong.
  • Technical notes — for the more quantitative reader: a closer look at methods, data handling, or the odd mathematical curiosity that comes up in the fund's daily work.

A note on tone

This is not a marketing blog. If a post reads like a press release, we've failed. The goal is to share the kind of analysis we'd want to read ourselves — rigorous, transparent about uncertainty, and willing to take a position.

Thanks for being here early. More to come.
